Aston is openly retro in inspiration, drawn on a more conservative scale and built with the kind of painstaking construction that belongs to long-established upholstery craft. The seat and back cushions are heavily padded, and the chair is offered with or without arms, a decision that changes how it reads next to a sofa rather than how comfortable it is.
Inside, a metal frame carries the load on elastic webbing with a high natural rubber content, a suspension method older and simpler than the foam-on-springs approach used elsewhere in the collection. The backrest combines fire-resistant polyurethane foam with an inner layer of heat-sensitive memory foam, while the seat pairs variable-density foam with a light channeled down quilt over the top for a softer first touch. Covers come off completely in fabric, and stay fixed to the frame in leather, a practical difference worth knowing before specifying one or the other. The legs are cast aluminium in a polished pewter finish, set on soft, non-marking glides.
The armless version sits more quietly beside a sofa of the same family, while the version with arms works better as a stand-alone chair, in a living room or a bedroom sitting area. Because the leather cover cannot be removed for cleaning or replacement, a household that wants covers it can take off for cleaning should specify the fabric version instead. The chair’s restrained scale keeps it from crowding smaller rooms where a full-depth lounge chair would not fit.
