Alys starts from a single gesture: a sheet of leather pinched in two places at its base, which gives the headboard its lean and its sense of movement rather than sitting flat against the wall. That pinch produces a shape that curls slightly forward, welcoming and protective rather than purely decorative, with thin perimeter strips running around the edge, marked by a lengthwise seam.

Underneath the leather, the bed is built on an internal frame of tubular steel and steel profiles, padded with flexible cold shaped polyurethane foam so the headboard keeps its pinched form. The bed sides are anodized aluminium extrusions rather than upholstered panels, and the frame stands on thermoplastic feet. Underneath the mattress, a slatted base combines tubular steel with wood multi-layered slats, carried on a steel support crosspiece, with the whole bed finished in a thick leather cover.

Alys can be set at two different heights, since two sets of feet come supplied with the bed, giving a designer room to adjust the frame against a low platform bedroom or a more traditional bed height. In a primary bedroom, the leather headboard reads best from across the room, so the bed suits a layout where its foot faces the entrance rather than a corner that hides the headboard.
